Rebecca G. Adams, PhD, is Professor and Gerontology Undergraduate Coordinator, UNC Greensboro. She also coordinates UNCG’s Gerontology Research, Outreach, Workforce development, and Teaching Hub (GROWTH), a network of faculty, community partners, and alumni with interests in aging. Her publications on older adult friendship and music audiences include more than 25 articles, 40 chapters, and several books, including Deadhead Social Science (Altamira, 2000, with Robert Sardiello), Placing Friendship in Context (Cambridge, 1998, with Graham Allan), Adult Friendship (Sage, 1992, with Rosemary Blieszner), and Older Adult Friendship: Structure and Process (Sage, 1989, with Rosemary Blieszner). She has received funding for her research from a variety of sources, including the the AARP Andrus Foundation.

She served as President of the Southern Sociological Society, on the Executive Committee of the Behavioral and Social Sciences Section of the Gerontological Society of America, on the Council of the American Sociological Association, and as Editor of Personal Relationships. A Fellow of GSA and a Charter Fellow of AGHE, she has reviewed book manuscripts for more than 25 publishers, refereed papers for more than 30 scholarly journals, and served on the editorial boards of Journal of Aging Studies, Journal of Applied Gerontology, and other journals.
