3MT People's Choice Award

Earlier in the semester, when trying to talk about my research project I realized I was rambling and the explanation lacked cohesion because I wasn't really sure about what points helped the listener understand what I was actually doing, and what I was including that was unnecessary.

Shortly after, I received an email stating that our university was hosting a 3 Minute Thesis competition, which is a research communication competition where graduate students are challenged to communicate the significance of our project without any props or jargon in three minutes or less with just one PowerPoint slide. This opportunity gave me the space to really think about what my project boils down to. Additionally, during the process of preparing for the final round we were encouraged to meet with a professor one on one to sharpen our presentation skills.

Although I did not place, I did receive the honor of the "People's Choice" award which to me means a great deal. Having the opportunity to talk about my sexual health program for older adults to an audience of people who have likely never heard the word gerontology before was excellent!
